The Somali Women Peace and Security Centre (SWPSC) successfully hosted a high-level national forum in Mogadishu under the theme “Defense and Elections.” The event brought together hundreds of Somali women leaders, activists, and community members to engage in meaningful dialogue on their role in shaping Somalia’s future.
The forum was officially opened by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, who addressed the vital role women play in governance, national defense, reconciliation, constitutional development, and democratic participation.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing women’s representation in political and administrative leadership. He praised Somali women for their patriotism and active role in public life, including their contributions to national development and rebuilding state institutions.
“The full realization of women’s rights depends on protecting every citizen’s right to vote and be elected,” Prime Minister Hamza emphasized, adding that empowering women is central to achieving Somalia’s long-term peace and stability.
The forum also featured participation from the Minister of Women and Human Rights Development, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Members of Parliament, civil society representatives, and women from various sectors.
The event served as a platform to strengthen solidarity, amplify women’s voices, and build momentum toward inclusive governance and democratic reforms.
